HISTORY OF KARNI MATA TEMPLE

Pandit Gagan Kumawat of Karni Mata Temple says that Maharana Karan Singh of Mewar was married in the Bikaner royal family, then mother Karni had come to Mewar Chhabde. During the rule of Maharana Karan Singh in 1621-1628, there was a fear of attack from Maratha side. In such a situation, Maharana’s minister Amarchandra Barwa got the Ekliggarh fort constructed and got the Udaipur city coat built.

At that time, the temple of Karni Maa was established with the belief that like Bikaner and Jodhpur, Mewar will also be protected by the grace of Maa Karni. For this plow was brought from Bikaner. Kind mother Karni blessed Mewar like Marudhar and kept Mewar region safe from invaders. Even in the temple of Udaipur, the white rat is said to be the descendant of Karni Maa and is the total deity of Charan Samaj.

450 years old temple of Udaipur, from where entire Mewar is visible in 360°, interesting history behind establishment
History is taken from the book written on Maa Karni. The temple of Karni Mata also became isolated due to its geographical location. The temple was deserted due to the dense forests. But with time the circumstances changed. Those who came for morning walk renovated the temple. The ancient statue was allowed to remain in place and a second statue was installed in 1996. In spite of the fact that it was not easy to carry water, cement and bricks without climbing the mountain for the construction of the temple, the devotees made the difficult task easy.
