HISTORY OF SANWARIYA SETH TEMPLE

The relation of Bhagwan Shri Sanwariya Seth is told with Meera Bai. According to legends, Sanwariya Seth is the same Girdhar Gopal of Meera Bai whom she used to worship. Meera Bai used to travel with these idols in the company of saints. One such saint Dayaram had these idols. According to a legend, these idols were made by Naga Sadhus.

Fearing the invaders, Sant Dayaram ji buried these idols by digging a pit under a banyan tree in Chhapar (open field) of Bagund-Bhadsauda and later Sant Dayaram ji died.

Later in the year 1840, a shepherd named Bholaram Gurjar, a resident of Mandafia village, had a dream that 4 idols were buried in the ground in the Bhadsauda-Bagand raid, when the place was excavated, Bholaram’s dream came true and 4 identical idols were found. All the idols that appeared were very beautiful.

In no time, this news spread everywhere and people from nearby areas started reaching the spot. Then unanimously the biggest idol out of the four was taken to Bhadsoda village, in Bhadsoda the famous householder Saint Puraji Bhagat lived. WHY CALLED “SANWARIYA SETH” ?

It is believed that Lord Shri Sanwariya Seth is related to Meera Bai. According to legends, Sanwariya Seth is the same Girdhar Gopal of Meera Bai, whom she used to worship.

According to a legend, the name Sanwariya is associated with Lord Krishna because of Sudama’s visit to Dwarka. Sudama, the childhood friend of Lord Krishna went to Dwarka to meet him. The Lord welcomes them with 55 dishes cooked by Rukmini’s hands. When he was about to start eating, Sudama suddenly said, “When my wife and children are starving at home, how can I eat alone?” He was sad and sat under a tree. At that very moment a miracle happened.

A bullock cart full of food (puri and kheer) was brought to Sudama’s village and Sanwariya was announced to be the grandson of the Seth. Grand worship for 10 days was announced as a festival. They told that delicious food is being served three times a day. Everyone should come and have this food and for those who cannot come, we will bring food to their doorstep.

With this Sudama’s wife got enough food for the next ten days. Here a person went to Sudama and said that due to the birth of the grandson of Sanwariya Seth, food is being served in the area of 10 kos. It’s available at a nearby place, why don’t you go there and get the food?

Sudama asked “Is it being given in my village Vrindapuri also?” So the man said, “Yes brahmin, it is being given in your village also. I have seen it myself.

Everyone in the village enjoyed a grand feast and Sudama’s family was served poori and kheer at their doorstep. Sudama got up and started going to have food with that person. The man transformed himself into Krishna and asked, “I am hungry too, won’t you invite me?”

Sudama realized that it was a miracle performed by Lord Krishna that after Sudama had left home, his family members could have enough food and thus Sudama requested Lord Krishna to eat the food cooked by Rukmini Devi. Agreed and went with them.

In this story Lord Krishna is called Sanwariya Seth, hence the name of this temple is Sanwariya Seth Temple.
