The haunted fort, Bhangarh ka kila is situated in the Alwar district of Rajasthan. Alwar district is not only famous for its beauty but also for its mysteries. Every year, many tourists come to the place to learn the truth about the mysterious fort. Once upon a time, there were temples, palaces, and markets inside the fort complex which has been ruined. Bhangarh Fort is one of the historic forts in Rajasthan which has a rich history. The history of the fort started with its construction in 1583 by King Bhagwant Das. The youngest son of Bhagwant Das, Madho Singh and Mansingh (One among the nine navaratan of Mughal emperor Akbar) made this fort their residence later. After the death of Madho Singh, his son, Chattra Singh became the ruler of Bhangarh. After that, Chattra Singh’s son Ajab Singh began to rule the region. The two grandsons of Ajab Singh have adopted the Muslim religion. But when the Mughal dynasty became weak, Sawai Jai Singh, killed Ajab Singh’s grandson and owned the Bhangarh Fort.

Till 1720, the place flourished and there were around 9000 homes in the region. However, it was believed that the fort was destroyed because of the scarcity of water in that region. This was one of the reasons for the destruction of the fort, but there are several stories relating to the fort which tell the reason for the destruction of the fort.

It is said that the land on which Bhangarh Fort stands belonged to a powerful saint named Guru Balunath. Before construction of the fort began, Madho Singh sought Guru Balaknath’s permission. He was granted permission on the condition that the shadow of the fort should never fall on his house. But if it happens there will be a great disaster. However, Madho Singh’s successor, Ajab Singh, ignored this condition and built the fort with strong walls. The shadow of these walls fell on the monk’s house, which led to the destruction of the Bhangarh region.

Another famous horror story of the haunted place is connected with Queen Ratnavati. It is said that the queen was so beautiful that a magician who was an expert in doing black magic fell in love with her. One day when the queen was going shopping with her friends, the black magician saw that the queen was borrowing perfume. So he turned the perfume into a love medicine which would result in the queen falling in love with the magician. But, Ratnavati understood the false practises of the magician and she threw away the perfume bottle on a rock. As a result, the rock came down and the magician died. Before dying he curses the queen that this region will be soon destroyed and no person will survive in the fort complex.

Why  Bhangarh Fort is Closed at Night?

Entry to the fort is restricted at night as it is believed that there are some paranormal activities take place in the fort at night. People who tried to find out the reason for the mystery behind these activities said that it was because of the negative energy of the fort. It is believed that the spirits awaken as soon as the sun sets in, which is why, the fort is closed after sunset. People also believe that if you put your ear to the walls of the houses in Bhangarh, you can hear the voices of spirits. Furthermore, local people believe that they often hear the sound of a woman screaming, breaking bangles, and crying coming from the fort. Moreover, some people who have visited the fort during the day say that they felt like someone was following them inside the fort.

How to Reach Bhangarh Fort?

Despite being haunted, the fort is one of the favourite tourist destinations. The Jaipur Airport is 80 km from the fort. If travelling by train, the nearest railway stations are Bhankari Railway Station and Dausa Railway Station. Additionally, you can also reach the fort through buses, taxis, cabs, or any personal vehicle.

Bhangarh Fort Ticket Price

The ticket prices for foreign visitors are Rs. 200 and for Indian tourists the entry fees are Rs. 40. If you are looking for staying options in Bhangarh, please avoid them. The best option is to stay in the hotels of Alwar, Dausa, and Sariska.

The fort is open for visitors from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm.
